The 1972 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow gets re-painted

The PMC will be re-sprayed in its original colors

Except for the rear bumper all chrome has been removed.

All door handles and chrome strips are gone!

The rear bumper removed and a small rust spot is found on the bumper.

   

The WD-40 used to remove the bumper leaves a nice puddle!

The white areas on the door were filled in at Crewe as part of making the Shadow as straight as possible.

Rolls Royce build records indicate this was done to hide any waves in the steel before the body was approved for painting!

Some rust is found under the primer and filler and a new piece of sheet metal will be placed here.

 

The bumpers have been sent out for a new chrome coat. Some filler has been added to even out all metal waves found on the left quarter panel.

All the work from the front to the rear doors is complete. Now the rear end and we're ready for the primer.

The bottom right will need attention the next few days.

The rusted part removed, new steel added and some bondo to smoothen the surface.

Tuesday, 2 April 2002    

The Silver Shadow is getting a sunbath to allow the primer to dry and shrink.

The last primer coat has been applied, and color should be added this week!!

The bottom color has been applied and protected for the top coat. A sealant has been applied to the top, and we are ready as soon as this layer dries.

 

 

 

 

All that is left is the wet sanding and buffing before the chrome can be placed onto the Shadow. The car will go back to Magrathea on Wednesday, 15 May 2002, just a bit more than three months since it was delivered to Texas Body Works.

 
Monday, May 20, 2002    

The Shadow arrived at Magrathea, and after just a few hours the headlights are reattached, and door one is complete.

 

 

   

All bumpers have been re-chromed and will enhance the car's appearance.
 

Tuesday, 21 May 2002    

 

 

The roof has been cleaned and degreased, now one tiny hole needs to be fixed.

Slowly but surely the car disappears behind her burka!

The roof has been completed, and is getting additional conditioning treatment over the next two days.

The doors have been put back together, and the chrome and stainless steel on the body is being reattached.

The pin stripes were hand painted onto the Shadow today, and the familiar grille with the Spirit of Ecstasy once again is ready to guide the way.

    
 

The Rolls Royce name once again is on the boot of  Blue Bonnet!


 

Ricardo is working hard to finish before the end of the day

     

Delivery was taken on 31 May 2002. The car was driven 60 miles today, including a visit to Old Warsaw.

All steel, chrome, and engine components have been polished or painted to sparkle like new again.
